Lecture 2: Microprocessor — The Brain of the Computer
The microprocessor — also called the CPU — is the brain of the computer. Learn its three main jobs: calculating, making decisions, and controlling every part of the computer.
What you will learn
- A microprocessor is a small electronic chip inside the computer.
- It is also called the CPU — the Central Processing Unit.
- It receives information, works on it, and gives us the result.
- It is called the brain of the computer because, like our brain, it thinks, remembers and controls all the parts — without it, the computer can do nothing at all.
- It does three main jobs: (1) it calculates — adds, subtracts and solves problems very fast; (2) it makes decisions; (3) it controls every part of the computer, like a boss giving orders.
- It sits inside the system unit, on the motherboard.
- It works super fast — it can do millions of small jobs in just one second.

Assalam-o-Alaikum, dear students! Welcome back to Computer Science, Class Six. I am your teacher, Hazrat Amin. In the last lesson, we learned about hardware and software. Today we will learn about the microprocessor — the brain of the computer.
What is a microprocessor? A microprocessor is a small electronic chip inside the computer. It is also called the C P U — the Central Processing Unit. It receives information, works on it, and gives us the result.
Why do we call it the brain of the computer? Just like our brain thinks, remembers, and controls our whole body, the microprocessor thinks for the computer and controls all of its parts. Without it, the computer can do nothing at all.
The microprocessor does three main jobs. One: it calculates — it adds, subtracts, and solves problems very fast. Two: it makes decisions. Three: it controls every part of the computer — like a boss giving orders to everyone.
Where is the microprocessor? It sits inside the system unit, on the motherboard. And it works super fast — it can do millions of small jobs in just one second! That is why the computer answers us so quickly.
Let us revise. The microprocessor is a small chip — the C P U — and it is the brain of the computer. It calculates, it decides, and it controls everything. In the next lesson, we will learn about input and output devices. Goodbye, and keep learning!
